Headcanon time: So, Jowan, Surana and Eirrik have been friends since FOREVER. Growing up, there was never any romantic tension between the three at all.
It isn’t until after the events of the Broken Circle and the Urn of Sacred Ashes that Jowan is conscripted into the Wardens—and in fighting the despair and loneliness of the road, Surana and Jowan cling to the only familiar things they know—Jowan is Surana’s first [and possibly only] lover.
